Tevez - Counterpoint & Reality Check

So Carlos Tevez is coming to West Ham.  Or is he? Playing Devil's advocate for a second, let's  slow down, reduce expectation and take a deep breath.

Betting odds are based on rumour, bets placed, and form; odds are lowered not just because something gets closer to certainty, but because more punters put money on the bet.  Bets are no longer accepted when something is fact.

Facts known:

  • 3 more days in the transfer window closes
  • Tevez's rumoured transfer to Milan falls through
  • Wages were the stumbling block
  • City refuse to sell Tevez to another English club
  • City refuse to loan Tevez to any rival European club
Questions:

  1. West Ham cannot afford even half of Tevez's 250K a week; in fact, 60K a week would be too much given the club's financial constraints, and Manchester City aren't going to pay his wages for him to play somewhere else, unless they think it keeps their asset fit and marketable.  But the Championship?  Is that the stage to maximize the value of their player?
  2. Tevez could be loaned to West Ham at any time this season - outside the window, if necessary.  Why now?  Over to you, Kia:
  3. Kia Joorabchian is a alleged to have been involved in some deals in the past that have got the club into trouble; would the club would ever deal with him again?
  4. More importantly, with just over 2 days to go, Joorabchian's job is to get as much publicity for Tevez as possible.  A heartwarming story like this is sure to do that; it also sure to put other European clubs on alert that Tevez is flexible on his wages, and that a short contract would be acceptable to Tevez.  What better way to raise the player's profile in the media?
  5. Last time Tevez came to West Ham his presence, the whole media circus, upset the apple-cart and was the beginning of the end for Pardew.  Would Big Sam really welcome such a huge name into his squad: would this be more divisive than productive?
Tevez is a true Claret and Blue hero; no doubt about it: he scored against Manchester United on the last match of the season to send Sheffield United down and keep West Ham up. He crosses his arms over his chest and salutes the West Ham fans whenever he's at the club.  He has never played well against us.  He is one of my favourite players for his passion, determination and, yes, technical ability.

But, truly, even if these rumours have any merit at all - and I'm not saying they don't, is it really the best solution for the club?  Is Robert Hall going to get a chance while Tevez is here?

Help me out here; over to you...

Paul

  1. Agree with some of it but Tevez could walk round most defences in this league. Also signing Tevez will raise loads of money in merchandise, shirt sales and ticket sales would rise. The club would get extra publicity making it more attractive to sponsors and we are majorly lacking fire power.

  2. same as always onawingie ,dj cambell, sorry these players are no differant to what we have tevezs would be great but i think its all adream, why dont we just pay the money for rhodes hes clearly a true goal scorer and also can only get better, and one for the future

  3. lol, does robert hall get a chance now ??

not in any games so far this season really, we havent used any of our youth despite massive injury problems, potts got maybe 2 games, but rest assured thats his lot unless linda gets injuried. The use of our youth is a crime really when we do actually have 2 or 3 that i believe are good enough to get a run out in the fizzy pop (and lets face it could they do any worse that whats being served up ?)

  4. I think it is all about securing promotion and finishing as champions in the league. Also we haven't been scoring many goals with Baldock and Carlton so if we can secure Tevez it will mean more goals and frighten the other teams around us.

Bring on Tevez, West Ham Legend!!

  5. My fear is that we become a joke like Tottenham were a few years back, being linked with everyone and not signing anyone. Would love this to be true, would really really love it but the head says it can't happen.... Can it?

  6. Any player with Tevez ability is a positive on the future developement of a young talent. It would only be for a very enjoyable 4 months so not a big issue in my opinion. His wages would be the only sticking point but if he were to take a paycut?

If he really does love our club given his position at this time why not help us out, play football and score a hatfull of goals and pretty much guarentee a place in WH folklore for ever more. In the summer he would be guarenteed a big move to Inter or PSG. Come on Carlos PLEASE be True!

  7. háve to say I agree with preety much all of the above. when you sit back and take a reality check it certain puts things, like all the points above, into perspective. however if it does happen them bloody brilliant :-)

  8. I do not know if picking up Tevez on a loan spell at this pont in time is the smartest move until the team rebounds into the premier league (Looking good for next season? Fingers crossed). It is to hefty of a wage to pick up right now and the team is playing well . Also the development of up and coming players will surely suffer if Tevez comes, as he will obviously command a starting position. Tevez has a good relationship at West Ham and would no doubt light up the championship and sell seats, but whether or not this is a good idea remains to be seen

    1. The team is playing well? We've beaten 3 relegation candidates by a single goal in our last 3 games and we only won 2 of them because of dubious penalties! Don't get me wrong I'm happy that we're top of the league but we are not playing well at all and could really do with someone like Tevez's technical ability and goal scoring ability! If this doesn't happen we need Maynard/Sordell/Rhodes desperately.

  10. David Gold is on Twitter every day unless some deal is being done, then he goes quiet, today he hasn't tweeted! Make your own mind up as to what that says. Also the club made an official announcement that there would be a new signing in 48 hours, that was 2days ago! I think this is a real possibility based on this. However I do agree with all points and all the above comments, we just have to wait and see! Who else could Tevez go to? No euro clubs on loan, no one prepared to meet citys valuation to buy him atm and he does seem to love west ham. All I will say is if he does join lots of people on Twitter will be posting naked pictures of themselves and eating hats etc

  11. Half of his wages would be roughly 3m till end of season

Offset by sold out stadium every week and pretty much guaranteed promotion

Not saying I think will happen, but is not so Crazy as first sounds financially

    1. Exactly what I said! If I remember rightly, halfway through the season before last the Davids offered Van Nistelrooy 100k a week and said that it would be worth it if it kept us up, this is a very similar deal/situation except its to get us back to the premiership. Hope it happens, COYI!

  12. there's only 14 weeks till the end of the season if we paid 100 grand a week of his wages that's 1.4 million , sell piquonne for half a mill and get him off the wage bill , illunga's off the wage bill , the deal is already affordable without tevez shirts and gate receipts to almost garuntee promtion and 40 mill its a no brainer , gold and sullivan said last year that they can carry a player on 100 grand a week short term

  14. if tevez came back and we got promoted could this be the kick start to bring in a trio of class strikers to ensure success in the premiership after his departure to europe after a loan deal. i would like to think so and they would probably be foreign players that are good and are looking for a way to play in the premiership

  15. it isnt going to happen full stop.....im not a big fan of loans to be honest..how can we build for the future with players that wont be here in the future..

  16. as much as id love to see carlos at UP again i really cant see it..as said big sam wouldnt let him disruped things in a side that has to be pulling togethet and seems sound enough as it is....wouldnt mind seeing the rangers striker here.but with liverpool sniffing around is it likely?

  17. My worry is that we are lucky being top of the table at the moment, with not scoring a lot of goals, cannot rely on other teams like Southampton to stutter for too long.
If the club can pay his wage bring him back. What a way to guarantee winning the championship - bring back the good times and a buzz around the ground, winning games by 3 or 4 goals.
This would put us in good stead to finish mid table when back in the Prem.
