David Gold has confirmed that West Ham have now made a formal bid for wantaway Ranger's striker Nikica Jelavic and are waiting for a formal response. In a tweet late last night, David Gold answered a tweeter's question:
"any news on Jelavic yet.. Hi Stuart. Still no news DG"
The bid is believed to be for £7.2M, and, according to SPL correspondent Daniel Gordan, it is believed that Rangers are satisfied with the bid, and it is now up to the player to agree terms, although this is unconfirmed, which, of course, contradicts DG's tweet..."still no news". Despite the claims of Rangers supporters, it is known that Liverpool are distancing themselves from false reports ostensibly circulated by Jelavic's father/agent that he was likely to sign for them.
Many twitterati are also claiming that the Hammers have a £3M bid in for the man who last scored against them, Nottingham Forests' 23 year old creative midfielder, Lewis McGugan. He was involved in many of Forest's dangerous opportunities on Saturday and was the scorer of their injury-time goal, which was a cracker. Forest are on a fairly tight budget, and it is suggested they are reluctantly entertaining this offer to bring more new players in. I hate to say it, but given their play on Saturday, I would say patience is their only need right now; I felt they certainly acquitted themselves well at the Boleyn.
Strong rumours purportedly from within the club also insist that if Jelavic or Mcgugan fail to materialize, then West Bromwich's 30 year old Russian Born Nigerian striker Peter Odemwingie is next on the list.
At the very least, these are interesting stories. What do you think?
Paul

I thought the WHUFC bid was £5.25M. Rangers are desperate to offload him so it makes sense to leave it until the last minute on 31 January and they'll take anything above £4M for him. The bad news is that he seems to have gone totally off the boil in recent weeks which is surprising, given that he's in the shop window!
ReplyDeleterangers aret desprate to of load him and westham will get him for no less that 10 get real
DeleteDon't think he's worth 7million,17 goals is a decent return but a think 6 of them have been from penalties,so only 11 from outfield play and he's only scored 2 goals against Celtic in the spl, shame we didn't get Rhodes looks a much better prospect,or even hooper from Celtic,he cost less and has scored only 1 less than jelavic and a don't think any of them have been penalties.
DeleteIt was 5 million +add ons,that's all he's worth,and to the rangers fans,does watp mean(WE AVOID TAX PAYING):)lol
DeleteI agree with Anonymous
ReplyDeleteLeave it until a couple of days till the window ends. Offer £5m and they'll take it. Everyone knows Rangers are skint and need cash badly. In saying all that, Jelavic's record at international level and against Celtic (the games that count) is very poor
scored against celtic in the 4-2 game and the winner in the league cup final and a few times when he was at rapid
Deleterangers sell in the sumer hes going go for lot more p.s jelvic still has long time to go on his contract
Deleteput it this way if andy caroles wurth 35 m jelvic wurth more than him

Way toooo funny! Thick as mince!!!!!
lot of pi$h-anything under 10 million your wee didy team can forget it.
ReplyDeleteFirst 2 comment don't make any sense. Why would they accept a lower bid on the last day when it's too late to replace them?
ReplyDeleteany truth in the rumour dalgleish willing to swap carrol plus cash for jelavic, seeing as he cant find the net in the prem, maybe he could do it against lesser teams ie, forfar, arbroath brechin etc ,then again, maybe not..
ReplyDeleteYe could well end up playing these teams regularly the way things are looking!
Deletereading the comments above, come in at the last minute,4 millon ,rangers will accept it,as jelavic's father/agent says, his son has more ambition than to play for west ham/qpr..the smaller english clubs..say no more.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about him its alot of money i would of played the safe card in maynard and that guy from forest who scored at the weekend both for 7 million the one thing i want to say is a big thank you to david gold and david sulliven for even being linked with these sort of players is fantastic news.we are on the move to big things well done big sam come on you irons / we are top of the league say we are top of the league-- ross
ReplyDeletewhere did it ever say jelavic wanted away ..NO WHERE . once again we would rather keep him yes were skint FOR NOW BUT WELL BE BACK dont worry about that but please dont make up pish as you go along
ReplyDeleteJelavic will be sold this month. Can't stand him (Celtic fan) but the guy has been on fire up until Naismith injury. 7-8 million will get him and with the right supply he will get the goals. Will be glad to see him go
ReplyDeleteSo funny how times change and Rangers are now a smaller club than West Ham!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if Jelavic knocks West Ham back. No offense, I like you hammers but your in a second tier league and have little or no chance of appearing in Europe - for a few years at least. Think big Jelly wants at least the premiership and probably the top 10 of those teams. Show us the money 7.2 is better but not enough. A bid of 8.5 should be enough. Jelavic said he would go if it eased the pressure on Rangers - I think QPR will trump this bid from West Ham. Thinking Tevez is more likely to re-sign:P for the hammers - eh no.
DeleteJelavic can be very good when he's interested. However, it's best not to forget the cringeworthy tapping up that got him to Rangers in the first place. His team decided he was going nowhere but Rangers had already told all and sundry that he was number 1 on their list etc etc. He then effectively went on strike to get his move. I suspect someone of this kind of 'character' is not going to go anywhere he doesn't want to unless it's on his terms so I wouldn't count on him going to WHU if that's not where he feels he 'belongs'.
ReplyDeleteIn what parallel universe did that happen? Rangers made a bid, Rapid Vienna were happy to sell but held out til they got the amount they wanted for the player. The only problem with the transfer was over a percentage Rapid owed to Jelavic.
Deletei think best deal ive heard yet,qpr to offer cash plus hellgusson, this is rumoured ,but would be a good move for coistys,
ReplyDeleteHaha. I cant believe the rubbish some of the Rangers fans come out with. The Championship is a step up from the SPL and the Prem is a different world! Rangers are broke and are trying desperate media tactics to draw attention to Jelavic so they can get the best price. Sorry lads, he's off because Rangers need the money. No one wants to sell their best players but thats what happens. Its happened to West Ham, Bolton with Cahill, Arsenal with Fabregas etc. It's just football.
ReplyDeleteJelavic is a good player (Fae a Celtic fan) WHEN he's interested, His attitude is questionable.
ReplyDeleteThe stat Rankgers FC don't want you to know - 14 League goals of which 6 were penalties.
Try not to include Celtic FC in your point when posting about Rankgers FC we are not interested in their cheatin way's
Any one who thinks CFC & FRC would not make it in the EPL (Re Wolves 0-3 every week) are aftherheid, If Celtic FC were to ever be invited in to the EPL (Unlikely yes, but look at Swansea fae WALES) we would attract a much higher caliber of player and for the record we allready have two "REAL" billionaire owners at our club (Desmond & O'Brien) - They just wont invest whilst in the SPL.
HH
Rangers are that skint they just re applied planning permission for their £350 million regeneration project are the only club in Britain who have every match televised in its entirety on sky . If Jelavic was to leave £7.2 and Noble sounds about right would be cover if Edu and Ness were injured at same time
ReplyDeleteAnother bear with his head stuck in the sand, the project was 700 million when it was first talked about, the rangers media talk the talk to keep you lot happy,it was shot down in flames by the glasgow city council when it was talked about again, lol the only club with it's games all on sky lol even the home one's ha ha,tick tock the taxman is coming
DeleteBig Sam said he wont bid for Rhodes who scored 28 in 25 (I think) after got 4mil rejected..But Gold bid Jelavic for 7.2mil?
ReplyDeletehmm, i dont know what are on their mind...
Thants because the £7.2 mil is paper talk. We will get him for about £4.
DeleteHammers fan here....would just like to say that whichever striker we sign, don't expect the goals to start rolling in, we're creating very few chances. Sam B. hasn't scored many but how many clear cut chances has he had?
DeleteRangers are teetering on the edge of oblivion . I would be crazy business to pay much more than 3 mill .
ReplyDeleteThe scottish press , who work for rangers ,are desperatly trying to hype up his value . Dont be conned ,Jelavic is only an average run-of the mill striker. Plus he indulges in all sorts of unsavoury behavior such as diving and whining.
3 mil and a cheese sandwich for jelavic sounds about right.........lol
ReplyDeleteCeltic fan here and Jella is a very good player. He just needs service. He had a great record at Rapid and would do very well in EPL WITH SERVICE. He will not score goals on his own so I can't see him setting the heather on fire for a bottom team.
ReplyDeleteJelavic only scored 25 in 70 games for rapid,so your talking nonsense decent striker but not worth 7 million.
DeleteThe usual load of nonsense.I'm sure Jelavic is worth 7m to someone, but WHU don't have that kind of cash and why would we spend it on an unknown quantity like him??Lets face it WHU's recent January transfer dealings haven't been exactly stellar, have they??
